# Evidence Locker

Book evidence straight from inventory, track chain of custody, and check items out and back in.

Officers book evidence **from their own inventory** — never by typing a description. Booking snapshots the item's metadata and serial server-side, and (by default) takes the physical item into the locker. Config: `config/evidence.lua`.

## Booking

From the Evidence page, an officer with `evidence.create` picks an item out of their inventory (item art included — ox/qb/esx alike through the inventory bridge). The booking records:

* the item, its metadata and serial (snapshotted, tamper-proof),
* an evidence tag (`LS-2026-00452` — prefix configurable via `tagPrefix`),
* a **location**: an exact map pin, or a search *area* with a metre radius (`radius = { min = 5, max = 100, default = 25 }`) drawn on the map and the detail page's minimap,
* linked records — cases, reports, warrants, persons, vehicles — with click-through.

`takeItemOnSubmit = true` removes the item from the officer's inventory on booking (the locker holds it). Set `false` to record without taking.

## Chain of custody

Every status change is written to a custody table with who, when, and notes. The lifecycle ships as: `collected`, `submitted`, `processing`, `stored`, `checked_out`, `returned`, `archived`, `destroyed` — each transition mapped to its own permission (statuses are configurable).

## Checkout and return

* **Check Out** (`evidence.checkout`) marks the item checked out, records **who** holds it (shown on the detail page), and **hands them the physical item** back into their inventory — for court, a lab run, or a re-canvass.
* A checked-out item's actions reduce to **Mark Returned** only. Returning takes the item back out of their inventory and sets the status back to `submitted`, writing the custody entry.
* **Destroyed** items are terminal — their status menu is locked entirely.

## CCTV captures

Snapshots taken through the [CCTV module](/mango5m-docs/resources/mango-mdt/features/cctv.md) fold into the locker automatically as read-only evidence cards.

## Permissions

`evidence.view` / `create` / `edit` / `delete` / `checkout` / `manage`.
